Family Bible Repair
BookGuard cloth tape re-covers a cracked or split spine in matte black, brown, burgundy or navy. Pre-cut wings and corners finish the worn edges, so the Bible your family has read for years can stay on the shelf and in hands.
Read every day, for years
The spine cracks where it bends, the top and bottom of the spine fray from being pulled off the shelf, and the corners wear through to bare board. Each has its own fix.
The spine
One strip re-covers the whole spine and wraps about 1/2" onto each cover.
Top and bottom of the spine
Pre-cut cloth wings fold over the top and bottom of the spine, where tape is hard to fit.
The corners
Pre-cut cloth corners fold over each worn outside corner. Peel, place, fold, press.
Pick the tape width for your Bible, then the color closest to its cover. Everything in a set is the same color.

One 15-yard roll re-covers about 50 spines on a 9-inch-tall Bible. Spine over 2"? Use 4" tape. Want another color? Cloth tape comes in 11.
Measure across the spine, cover to cover, and add 1 inch. Most pew Bibles measure 1 to 2 inches, so they take 2" or 3" tape. Big family Bibles can be thicker: measure yours.
Lay a ruler across the spine, cover to cover. 1/4" = 0.25, 1/2" = 0.5, 3/4" = 0.75.
Your width
3"
Cut one strip of cloth tape the height of the Bible plus 1-1/2". Wings and corners come pre-cut.
Center the strip over the spine, smooth it onto both covers, and fold the ends inside at the top and bottom. Fold a corner over each worn tip.
Rub it down firmly, edges first. The adhesive holds for good: no yellowing, no peeling like packing tape.
Cover coming loose? Run 1-1/2" clear tape along the inside hinge, where the cover meets the pages.
"I used this tape to repair my husband’s family bible. It matched perfectly. It was easy to work with and looks great."
"This met all my expectations and made repairing a 170 year old family Bible so much easier."
"I ordered a roll of 1 1/2 inch navy blue tape, and it matched the cover of my old favorite Bible perfectly. I no longer feel like it will fall apart when I open it!"
"I was purchasing to repair a Bible that was past down and has much sentimental value to me. It worked perfectly and was of excellent quality. Color was spot on."
"This is a very good and usable tape for our old bibles. I'm glad I found it instead of paying costly rebinding."
"The spine of my soft cover Bible was getting very worn. The cloth tape is flexible and appears to be very durable and I expect my Bible to be in good condition for many more years."
"Had to help the binding on a Bible that was not old, but was well used. The binding repair tape was perfect!"
Measure the spine cover to cover and add 1 inch, then take the next width up. A 1" spine takes 2" tape; a 1-1/2" or 2" spine takes 3"; anything over 2" takes 4". The width chooser does the math.
Black, brown, burgundy and navy are the classic Bible colors, and the cloth is matte, so it sits quietly next to the original cover. Cloth tape also comes in Forest Green, Red, White, Tan, Olive, Gray and Yellow.
Yes. The cloth flexes as the Bible opens, so it works on soft covers as well as hardcovers.
The adhesive is pH neutral and acid free, and the cloth won't yellow or fade. It is also permanent. For a rare or very valuable Bible, talk to a book conservator before you repair it.
One strip per Bible: its height plus 1-1/2". A 15-yard roll re-covers about 50 spines on a 9-inch-tall Bible, so one roll is plenty for a shelf.
